Cedarcrest Junior High School Reviews

I have had all of my children come through this school. I have always been treated with kindness and respect by all staff members. It really shows that the principal cares about the students. She is at a lot of activities The assistant principal and dean are great too. People say it is a gang school but I do not see that because if I did I would not snend my kids there..

I am very happy with this school. We transferred here in Nov. 2008 and came from a school with lots of discipline problems and no dress code. Cedarcrest was a good change and I feel that the dress code helps as they are very strict about it. The school is not 'free' of problems but what school really is?

I am fed up with this school and the lip service I get when an issue needs to be addressed. My daughter is a 7th grader and has never had problems in school with teachers or other students until we enrolled her at Cedarcrest. This school is inefficient in dealing with bullying, extra help for students who need academic guidance is nonexistent, there is little to no follow through with parent eacher communication. I have gone as far as to file a grievance with the school board and if I had my way this poor excuse for a school would lose its accreditation. I am not just ranting, I have several very specific instances that solidify the credibility of this review. Final word....if you are considering enrolling your child in Bethel school district I would under NO circumstances suggest Cedarcrest.

If I could take my kids out of district, I would. Cedarcrest (and Bethel schools in general) are pathetic at best. You try to communicate with the teachers, they won't. I have a special ed student who gets no extra help at all. When I talk to the faculty I always get 'Our classes are too big', we don't have enuff staff (as evidenced by a multitude of substitutes. my child averages 3-4 subs per week!) What's wrong with this picture. The studentgs get very little instruction as to what is required on homework assignments. I don't know how many times myself and their mother have tried to get the teachers to be more specific in their requirements for homework. The only bright spot here is the music program (most districts have cut them). Both my children are band members and doing very well. Truly sad.

Cedarcrest is a really great school. As a student there I should know. The teachers try their best to teach students. Its really hard for the teachers sometimes beacuse you can't teach a student doesn't want to learn. The teachers there are great and they make the work challenging and fun. If your moving to the Bethel school district area pick Cedercrest because it's better than any of the others school in the district. Usually kids don't look foward to the upcoming school year but I'm going into the ninth grade can't wait.

Both of my children attended Cedarcrest. Both wore the required school uniforms. We requested a district transfer so both of my kids could enroll in Cedarcrest rather than a school that allowed liberal dress codes. We made the right decision. Both of my children received adequate education and both were promoted to high school as honor roll students. Perhaps the problems parents and students encounter with Cedarcrest is not the school so much as what is happening at home.

I go to this school (8th grade) and I absolutely hate it. The teachers never give any discipline to the bad children but are constantly giving detentions to someone who has never broken a rule in there life because 'It wouldn't be fair.' As sad as it is though, out of all three schools (now four) this is the best. The school presidential elections are more of a popularity contest than anything, one security guard is not enough. I'm constantly pushed out of the way in the hall. There is also a lack of computers at the school and most of them are outdated I-macs. The teachers have barely gotten new computers for themselves (they still use e macs, which is a step up) I wouldn't recommend this school. If your going to put all your love and care into one student then don't bother having a school

This school is rediculous! My son has absolutely no say in anything, such as what to wear, even though the staff said he would if he joined the PTSA. Lies, all lies! How is this teaching our students how to live in a democratic world? The ASB president also has no say. Come on now! What are we teacing our kids?

I think that you learn a lot from this school, you learn what it's like in the real world, and you learn a lot academically. I've been there the past three years, and have learned a lot. I have won lots of nationally recognized awards, won essay contests, and have 3.9 and above. The math at Cedarcrest is really high, I am in the 9th grade, in Algebra 3 (which is 12th grade math). So if you are looking for a junior high in the Spanaway, Bethel School district, I would definately choose Cedarcrest over any other school.

A child coming in from an outside school should be tested to see where his/her ability is math/reading is, not what someone who has never invested any time into that child education and guesses. They don't read transcripts they assume.

My son went to this school last year and is in special ED. The staff at this school does not have enough knowledge to even be teaching these kids. I have gone around many times with this school. Bethel school Dist. in general I would not reccomend to anyone.
