About Tacoma, Washington

Known as the "City of Destiny", Tacoma is Washington’s third largest city. It is located at the bottom of Mount Rainer and along the shore of Commencement Bay. Tacoma got its name from the nearby Mount Rainier, originally called Mount Tacoma or Mount Tahoma. Named “One of America’s Most Livable Cities,” Tacoma has an amazing blend of cultural attractions, historic landmarks, and dazzling natural beauty.

Tacoma offers the Museum of Glass, the Tacoma Art Museum, Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, the Tacoma Dome, and Union Station. Union Station was built in 1911. Reed & Stem, the architects who created New York’s Grand Central Station, designed the railroad station. It began as the western finishing point of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Union Station is one of Tacoma’s most visited landmarks.

Tacoma is a city full of all types of art. An array of theatre’s and museums are available in the city. The Children’s Museum of Art is just one of the museums in Tacoma. Wright Park and Point Defiance Park are two beautiful places to spend time outside admiring the wonders of Tacoma.

Tacoma has an array of annual events that draw in thousands year round. Tall Ships, Wintergrass, and Freedom Fair are just a few of the well-known events in Tacoma. Freedom Fair is not an ordinary Fourth of July celebration. An air show, fireworks, a car show, Dragon Boats, and musical performances are all things that you can experience at Freedom Fair.
